Lake Winnie’s SOAKya Water Park offers plenty of fun and adventure for people of all ages.

By MEGAN SKELTON AND BRIANNA SKELTON, ages 13

It’s time to start planning for warm-weather fun. The SOAKya Water Park and Lake Winnie Amusement Park in Rossville, Ga., open several weeks before the official start of summer: the amusement park on May 5 and the water park on May 28. The following are two perspectives of SOAKya by eighth-grade siblings Megan Skelton and Brianna Skelton, who live in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Megan: What is something fun to do on a hot day? SOAKya Water Park is just the answer! It has a large lazy river, lots of slides and much more to choose from.

I really enjoyed Coke Float Cove. It is kind of like a roped monkeybar obstacle course with floating soda caps. It is a fun challenge. Once I competed against my sister to see who could get to the other side first. I don’t mean to brag, but I won.

To be fair, it was a very close race.[s2If !is_user_logged_in()]

I also think you go faster that way. These two slides are enclosed, so you can’t see very well where you are going, which makes the ride even more thrilling. There are some slides that you ride with an inner tube and some you ride without it. All of them are so much fun!

Little kids have their own age-appropriate rides and playground, too. There are sections just for their entertainment, including some smaller slides in case they are afraid of or are not tall enough for the bigger ones.

There is also a play area with a huge water bucket for them. The water bucket sits on top of the playground and fills up with water. When it is full, it spills over. What a blast!

You don’t need to worry about your belongings when you are having fun. There are lockers for your personal items close by. What if you get hungry? There are concession stands nearby as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at SOAKya Water Park. My family and I are already planning on going back. I can’t wait to do everything all over again!

Brianna: SOAKya Water Park was one of the coolest places I went this past summer.

When I got there, I was surprised by how many people were enjoying themselves and relaxing. I thought the setup was well planned. When you come in, the shops, restrooms and lockers are to your left.

In front of you, there are tables to eat at and a cute bridge that sprays mist on your feet. This bridge leads you over the lazy river to the center of the water park. There are shaded areas where you can take a break or where parents can sit and watch their children.

There are also lounge chairs in the sun in front of the little kids’ play area. Another bridge, past the chairs and slides, crosses another section of the lazy river and leads to another water playground and more activities to enjoy.

I was so excited I didn’t know what to do first. My mom, my sister, our friends and I found some shaded chairs, facing the kiddy playground, where we set our stuff.

We all decided to try the water slides that use floats first. I went for the open one to see the park (and not to be in a dark tube). Once it was my turn, I hopped in and sailed away. I screamed with happiness and got splashed with water at the end of the ride. It was so much fun. I couldn’t wait to do more!

There were other slides, but I chose to look around. I loved the Coke Float Cove. It was fun trying not to slip and fall in, doing crazy splits and weird moves just to pull yourself up. Once I reached the other side, I knew I would have to do it several more times.

At lunch time we had delicious meals from the concession stands and enjoyed some relaxing time catching up with each other. Afterward, it was time for more water fun on the slides and the lazy river.

We also went to the amusement park that is connected to the water park and had a wonderful time.

I definitely recommend these two parks for some great fun in the summer!
